87 Years Young
Moreecy Day Jr has been operating Caterpillar Dozers for over six decades.
At Chispa House, our journey to produce film and tv shows is a newer one, probably about three years old. We have been making short films alongside businesses for a little over eight years.
We help our partners gain customers, recruit and retain employees, and attract investors. Our strategy is to uncover authentic storylines and showcase them through short, documentary-style films.
When we enter an organization we look for Chispa, or the sparks that will inspire others. That may seem like phony mumbo jumbo, but it is very real and alive in nearly every business.
For example, in our recent campaign alongside Mustang CAT in Houston, TX, a dealer for Caterpillar Heavy Equipment, we met Moreecy Day Jr.
Moreecy is 87 years old, and operates a bull-dozer he bought from CAT nearly four-decades ago.
The story is unique and inspiring in many ways.
Moreecy started his career as a truck driver, hauling cargo across the country, but six decades ago his mom got sick. He wanted to take care of her, so he bought a bull dozer in order to generate income closer to home.
His mother has since passed, but unlike the paint on its side, the impact of his tractor has not faded.
Most of us are told that we must retire sometime in our 60s or maybe our 70s. Moreecy and his bulldozer missed that memo. He drives himself to the job site in his pick up and revs up his classic machine multiple times per week, and it is inspiring.
I am hopeful that I can love my job for the next 54+ years in a way that motivates me passed its financial duty.
It is why we are searching far and wide for beautiful and captivating stories to tell, not just to entertain you all, but also to drive fulfillment in ourselves.
If we are lucky, we will all be blessed with a career like Mr. Day, but
Settle in for the long haul. If we have 54-years left in our careers, lets all stop trying to peak today. Be methodical and patient with your craft.
Build community. If you want to go the distance you will need a little help from your friends. Your network is your power, start building relationships within your industry today and follow up often.
Do what you love. 87-years is a long time that will pass quickly, don’t wait to find a career that fulfills you.
Moreecy Day Jr is just one of the many remarkable stories we fell in love with during the CAT project, which has been one of our most successful to date.
We recently were invited to the Caterpillar conference in Kansas City coming up later this month, and we could not be more excited by the prospect of meeting other Moreecy’s from around the country.
It is a busy event, so in order to stand out my partner Sam is building an homage to the vintage-nature of Moreecy Day and his machine. Over the last few weeks, Sam has acquired historic CAT hats from around the country to display as a museum at our booth in Kansas City.
We are hopeful that the dealers will trade us their great stories for a stroll down memory lane.
Anyways I hope you enjoyed this insight into the foundation of our business at Chispa House, over the next few weeks and months I will begin introducing you to where we are headed, so I thought I should start with where we’ve been.
Happy Monday, be like Moreecy this week.
Love,
Log Dog

Mr Day has such an inspiring story, and you captured it so well. And that hat collection is cool.
